Headline: UK businesses are ill-prepared to cope with disaster and disruption
Description: A report published today by the Chartered Management Institute reveals that UK businesses are ill-prepared to cope with disaster and disruption.

The cross-sector report suggest that organisations are 'sitting ducks' and key findings include the following:

- even though organisations have identified the key threats to their business, they have failed to address them. 86 per cent of businesses know what problems they have but only 1 in 10 do something about it;

- external drivers are putting increasing pressure on businesses to adopt continuity plans. Most businesses claim they are responding to corporate governance demands (34 per cent) and requests from insurance companies (25 per cent);

- of those that do have a plan in place, most are not tested adequately, so there is no confidence in whether they'll work if they're invoked. Only 52 per cent actually test their contingency plans with any frequency
