| Description: | The majority of UK business people (61%) believe that making mistakes is the most effective way to improve their management skills and see Richard Branson as a role model, according to findings from an online poll by DTI’s Achieving best practice in your business and startups.co.uk.
The survey was commissioned to examine management techniques and how people learn to be better managers. It also showed that: · Over 3 in 5 (63%) said that work colleagues have the most guiding influence on their management style · Over half (52%) of respondents stated Richard Branson has had the most influence on their management style, followed by Anita Roddick (17%), Sven Goran Eriksson (15%) and Phillip Green (10%). While learning from mistakes can be a useful experience this can be a lengthy process and create wastage of both time and resources. DTI is encouraging businesses to see what works at other organisations and urges managers to learn from examples of management best practice to increase productivity and avoid making unnecessary mistakes. |
